this quarter i took a class called History of American Popular Music and i got to do a project on these lads.
that’s right, i got to write a paper and give a presentation about the fucking Doors.

i’ve been trying to find a unicode version of the runes from Led Zeppelin’s fourth album, because i thought it would be cool to actually have that as the title of the album in my itunes/ipod. but, it would appear that they don’t exist. probably for some copyright issues.
you know what i think of that, unicode? i think it’s a 1F4A9.

i am so glad the uploader of this video didn’t cut it off right after the song. if he/she had, we would have missed the “i thenk yoh” (or however you would spell that) at the very end.

i forgot how this song always nearly makes me cry.
my sister and i used to drive around a lot. in fact, one time she convinced me that someone was following us, and she said she was going to keep driving so we would loose them. turns out she said that just so we could keep driving. (i know what you’re thinking — yes, i am actually that gullible.)
i seem to remember that when we were driving we’d listen to Jurassic 5 and Tom Waits mostly. whenever this song came on, i’d well up and ask if we could change it. the part that starts me feeling verklempt is when he says
you know that i got married, too?
somehow that sentence sums up his sadness of days gone by and the fact that he didn’t end up with her.

i was going to just type up a section of this short article by Eric Clapton, but all of it it too well-written. i couldn’t possibly single out any part. i found this in the booklet accompanying the complete Robert Johnson recordings. (the parts in italics are originally so in Eric Clapton’s writing. the parts in bold are ones i find particularly interesting and true.)
